Leadership Vs Management

There is a lot of confusion and overlap regarding the two terms – Leadership and Management. More often than not we hear sweeping generalizations of Managers being Leaders and vice versa.
The confusion stems from the fact that a lot of good managers are also great leaders. This has lead to the present amorphous distinction between Leadership and Management.

Leadership: Leadership is about Vision. A leader has a vision for the company/organization.
He also manages to succesfully communicate this Vision through all levels of the organization. Last but not least the most important part of leadership is being able to get the rest as excited and commited as you are about this common Vision and how you plan to achieve it.

Management: Management is about achieving that Vision. A glorious Vision is pointless without somebody to actually implement it. A manager deals with the present, plans for the future and oversees the actual implementation of the Vision set by a Leader.
